The double sestertius was first issues in the reign of Trajan Decius owing to the declining value of the conventional sestertius. The new coinage however quickly fell out of use with the exception of in Postumus’ Gallic empire, where he was striving to make monetary reforms and maintain a reliable standard of coinage.

This typically broad example was produced in Lugdunum in 260 AD.
