Philip II ruled jointly with his father, Philip the Arab, for a short period until their deaths in AD 249. This Antoninianus depicts father and son seated in curule chairs, as equal rulers of the Empire with the legend LIBERALITAS AVGG III around them. Liberalitas can be understood as the virtue of generosity and giving freely.
