Roman Imperial, Trajan, Silver Denarius, Via Traiana – AD 112-114

£65.00

Silver denarius of Trajan, struck c. AD 112-114 commemorating the Via Traiana.

The Via Traiana was constructed in AD 109 at the emperor’s personal expense as an extension of the Via Appia, which resulted in a faster and smoother journey between Beneventum and Brundisium.

The Via Traiana is personified on the reverse, reclining on a rock, holding a wheel and branch.

A nice coin with an intriguing historical reference.

Very Fine.
