Greco-Baktrian Kingdom, Eukratides I Megas Silver Obol

£45.00

A silver obol of the great Baktrian king, Eukratides I ‘Megas’.

Eukratides’ mints produced some of the finest coinage of the Hellenistic world in both gold and silver, suggesting a kingdom of great prosperity and importance.

Eukratides came to power when he overthrew the rule of the Euthydemid dynasty within Baktria. Once secure he then made extensive conquests in North-Western India.

A great little coin with a well-preserved portrait for the type.

Some lamination on the reverse, Very Fine.
