A denarius struck under Caracalla commemorating the consecration of Septimius Severus following his death.

This attractive coin is a good size and weight (20mm, 3.25g) with a bold style, clear details and fully legible legends; a nice example.

The obverse shows a bare headed Septimius Severus on the with the legend DIVO SEVERO PIO – ‘to the divine Severus the pious’. Whilst the reverse depicts an eagle upon a globe with the legend CONSECRATIO surrounding.
